The government forces have not yet recovered the bodies of three militants which they said were killed during a fierce gunfight in Poonch district on the Jammu and Kashmir border, an official source said on Thursday. A fierce gunfight had started between militants and army at Mendhar area of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday morning. A senior defence official told a news agency that army troopers deployed along Line of Control (LoC) near Balnoi saw a suspicious movement of about 5-7 militants who tried to sneak into this side last night. The troops followed the movement of the suspected men and finally the forces challenged their move , the official said, adding that the militants opened heavy fire upon the army guarding the fence. The fire was retaliated ensuing a fierce encounter which lasted for an hour, the official said. The official said that the whole area has been sealed and later in the afternoon the army along with extra contingent of force will conduct the searches in the area. He said that so far no militant body has been seen. Earlier reports quoting police officials had said that three militants were killed in the gun-battle.
