The government has ordered summer vacation in all the government educational institutions including recognized private schools upto Higher Secondary level falling in Kashmir Division and winter zone of Jammu division with effect from July 15 to 31. The government also ordered summer vacation for government degree colleges of Kashmir Division including winter zone colleges of Jammu Division with effect from July 15 to 30. The announcement was made on Monday evening. Authorities denied that the decision was prompted by massive anti-Israeli protests staged by students of various educational institutes during the day. Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani had also urged students to stage anti-Israel protests on Tuesday and Friday (July15 and 18). Special Secretary School education department R A Inqilabi said the department was mulling to announce the vacations from past five days. “Vacations have not been announced in the wake of protests,” he said, adding that Director School Education (DSE) Jammu had forwarded his proposal for vacations six days back. He said DSE Kashmir also forwarded his proposal two days back.
