The government must be pleased with themselves. While people - TopicsExpress

The government must be pleased with themselves. While people fight over whether to vaccinate or cull badgers, they can sit back and do exactly what theyve been doing all along... Making a big, grand, empty gesture. In four years theyve enforced a few obvious, common sense cattle controls, carried out two hideously expensive, flawed badger culls (mainly on land devoid of cattle) and bluffed and mumbled their way out of actually doing anything which might make a difference... Theyve cited other countries as justification of their cause, yet failed to copy their complete policy (Ireland, NZ, Australia etc all have annual testing, culture tests alongside the dubious SICCT, compulsory pre and post movement testing and so on...). But ultimately the policy in England is flawed and fails to have any real direction or actionable time scale. Cattle vaccines, DIVA tests, PCR, a model of wildlife infection prevalence, important research into disease transfer between species, noting that badgers arent the only wildlife host, camelid controls, updating the SAM software to reflect the real infection incidence in cattle... All tools which will make a difference, all years away... So, we still have an inefficient test which is causing healthy animals to be slaughtered or farms to be shut down from inconclusive results, we still have market history given out on a voluntary basis and we still have a disease going uncontrolled in cattle. But their misdirection is on par with Dynamo because everyone is still concentrating all their attention on badgers... staffordshirenewsletter.co.uk/undefined-headline/story-22841004-detail/story.html?
