The great botonist / scientist George Washington Carver while attending Iowa state college was taken in by a white Scottish family, the Wallaces, as segregation kept him from staying in the dorms. While staying with the Wallaces Mr. Carver met, taught and influenced their young son Henry A. Wallace. Henry grew to become the Secretary of Agriculture and Vice President to President Roosovelt. He enacted many groundbreaking pieces of legislation that helped to reshape America. He was also one of the first and most vocal politicians at the time to speak out against racial discrimination and segregation in the U.S. I say our failure to live by the Constitution, our failure to abolish segregation strikes at the roots of America. This is an issue above politics, for whatever denies the freedom of the Negro, destroys the freedom of the Whites. Pity the persecuted, but pity the persecutor more. It is a cancer that eats into the very moral fiber of the American people” - Henry A. Wallace #knowyourhistory #knowyourself #blackhistory #americanhistory #dontbelievethehype
