The great unknown By: Josh Clevenger John 16:33New International Version (NIV) 33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Peter stepped out into the great unknown to follow after Jesus. We oftentimes look at Peter’s adventure into the open sea to find Jesus a failure, but we are over looking something that is very important. Peter began to sink into the waves once he took his eyes off of Jesus. Jesus quickly pulled him up from the depth of the waters and placed him back with Him. Peter had great faith to step out off the boat and he also showed that even when we doubt and begin to take our eyes off of Jesus in our journey in life. The Lord will not allow us to be overtaken by our problems. Peter was quick to follow the Lord because of his great affection for him, but once he was with the Lord alone in the middle of the waters he saw his weaknesses. The Lord will always lead us to places where our strength is not enough. He will lead us places where no one else will follow. He will lead us places where our faith will be tested beyond our own understanding. He does these things because He wants us to become more in our lives. He will take away from us, so He can add more to us later. The biggest fear we have in this life is the great unknown. We fear death because it is unknown. We fear change because it is not familiar to us. The Lord wants to break all limitations off of us, so we can follow him into the great unknown and find His pleasures. Perfect love has cast out all fear. If we taste His love we will never fear the unknown. Many of you today face situations where there is no clear path and you are waiting to see a clear path before you make a decision. The Lord wants you to decide in your heart what you and want He will create a path for you. If you are going to the great unknown in your life today, do not fear because He has overcome the world for you. Peter stepped into the great unknown to find Jesus. Sometimes we must have faith without borders to find Jesus. Be bold in your salvation today because your faith is greater than your adversity and Jesus in you has overcome the world already. Walk in the boldness of Christ today because the same power that rose Jesus from the grave resides in you. Speak your future into existence by your powerful words. Ignore the negative words of those who stay in the boat of life. Keep your eyes on Jesus and let Him build a faith in you that has no borders. Peter succeeds in his journey off the boat because he found Jesus. If you are willing to get out of your comfort zone, I promise you that you will find Jesus. In my experience in ministry the Lord is not found in the boat but in the great unknown. We must be willing to pursue Him with great passion and we must be willing to go places no other will go. If we will do this we will find our purpose in Him and have an understanding of Him very few do. Do not be afraid of the great unknown; be bold in your relationship in Christ. You will never fail with Him.
