The ground floor retail space and part of the second floor of the Franklin Institute building are for rent. On the ground floor, there are window signs for the previous tenant, the Pritchard-Lyon Motors Corporation, distributors of Pathfinder and Maxwell automobiles. Notes Rochester Herald, January 30, 1916. The Franklin Institute was a correspondence school best known for its Civil Service courses. Located at 550 Main Street East, the building with its Doric columns was modeled after the Parthenon in Greece. The school was founded ca. 1904 by John L. Keenan, and opened in the location pictured in 1914. It closed ca. 1967.Pathfinder motor cars were manufactured by the Pathfinder Automobile Company, Indianapolis, Indiana, 1911-1918. Maxwell automobiles were made by the Maxwell Motor Company of Detroit, 1904-1925. - The American car since 1775.
