The guys from WaterFurnace Geothermal Heating, Cooling & Hot Water - TopicsExpress

The guys from WaterFurnace Geothermal Heating, Cooling & Hot Water came down and did some tech training for J&J Air on Installation of a Pond Loop system yesterday and everything went smoothly. So we are now complete on the HDPE piping running from the Pond to the Mechanical Room of the house, to include the coolant in the pipe which we took from the well and added a food grade antifreeze to. The nice thing about geothermal systems is that nothing is exposed outside the house, so thieves cant come and steal your compressor unit for the copper in the condensing coils. The compressor is inside the house, and the coils arent copper. Those loops of HDPE pipe essentially serve the same purpose (exchanging heat) as the condensing coils and are 15 down at the bottom of the pond. What makes geothermal so much more efficient is that the delta T or difference in temperature between your house and the medium into which you are exchanging heat is greater in a geothermal system and the greater the difference, the more efficient the system will run. For example, in a conventional system, you are trying to take heat out of your house and put it outside where the temperature might be 95 degrees or more in the summer time. Air is less effective at absorbing heat - especially when it is hot to begin with. Now compare and contrast that to the water at the bottom of the pond which might be 70-80 degrees... And water is much more effective at absorbing heat than air.
