The hallowed halls of the Senate used to reverberate with the Ciceronian and ethereal eloquence of such brilliant , upright and golden-tongued senators as Jovito Salonga, Claro M. Recto, Jose W. Diokno, Arturo Tolentino, Raul Manglapus, Emmanuel Pelaez and Lorenzo Tanada. I remember every time the orators Jovito Salonga and Raul Manglapus went to the Senate podium and announced, I rise on a question of privilege, the whole nation was aquiver, amazed, mesmerized, persuaded and agog over the brilliant and important messages being conveyed to the nation via their privilege speeches. Enter Senators Jinggoy and Bong R. and their privilege speeches. Suddenly, the Senate hall was transformed into an ignominious forum for sophomoric, egocentric, nationally-irrelevant, self-serving and useless propaganda , gossip-mongering, personal vendetta and fairy tales, with matching singing, straight from moviedom. Lets not elect any more corrupt entertainers with puny minds to the Senate, so that this chamber can rise from its current infamy and ignominy.
