The hit and run bill the Minnesota Alliance on Crime (MAC) has - TopicsExpress

The hit and run bill the Minnesota Alliance on Crime (MAC) has been working on cleared another hurdle and has now passed all legislative committees. It will come up for a vote soon on both the Minnesota House and Senate floors. If you have not done so already, MAC could really use your help contacting your state representatives to encourage them to vote “yes” on the bill. Thank you to those who have already emailed their legislators about this! This bill requires drivers involved in a collision to determine what it is they struck. It encourages drivers who do not know what they’ve hit to stop and investigate. If you would like to read the bill you can click on this link: https://revisor.mn.gov/bills/bill.php?f=HF1335&b=house&y=2014&ssn=0 or feel free to let us know if you have questions. We have support from many groups (MN County Attorney’s Association, MN Sheriff’s Association, Minnesotans for Safe Driving, MADD, and Bicycle Alliance) and there was an editorial in the Star Tribune in support of the bill. There is zero cost associated with this bill. Here are the steps to email your state senator and representative: 1) Determine your state representative or senator by entering your address at this link: gis.leg.mn/OpenLayers/districts/ When you click on their name, their contact information, including their email address, will show up. 2) Put “support HF1335/SF1246 – I am a constituent” in the subject line of your email. 3) Please bcc Kelly (kkmoller@yahoo) if you can so we can keep track of who has been contacted 4) Draft a short email – you can use the template below. Dear *******, My name is **** and I live in your district. I am writing in support of the bill that changes the hit and run statute (HF1335/SF1246) by requiring drivers in collisions to determine what it is they have struck. This bill could make the difference between life and death for a person who has been hit by a car. I believe this bill will be up soon for a floor vote, and I really hope that you will vote “yes.” Thanks for your consideration
