The holidays are always met with mixed reviews. Some people love, and others loathe the experience. One thing is for sure, that regardless of your feelings on it, we need to be aware of everything around us. Elite Training Centers Krav Maga program emphasizes awareness of all situations. The MMA and Muay Thai Kickboxing side of things keep your reflexes sharp and your combat skills more honed. Therefore, please cross train in the various disciplines. There are a number of things to look out for during the season. We will include more as the holidays approach. Below are a few to get you started. -Shop with a friend (dont ruin their surprise though). -Accept the fact that others are shopping and mix among them (people watching is fun and you can also learn a little about parenting and their true feelings about the holidays). -We all wait until the last second, but you dont want to be the last person in the store and definitely not the last person in the parking structure (unless of course you dont want to deal with the painful start and stop traffic jam in a parking structure. Be patient. You just shopped for someone you care about. Most likely they will want you back home that night) . -Engage your alarm (hit the panic button from a distance just to try it. Its sometimes funny to watch the reactions of others anyway). -Look around you. If you are alone, which you shouldnt be, check your backseat before simply getting in. If something doesnt feel right, trust your gut. -If someone makes small talk while youre shopping, remember their face. (this could be a trick to try and get you to divulge what you drive, where you parked, if you are alone, etc. This could also be someone turning over a new leaf and being friendly during the holidays. Again, trust your gut). Just a few pointers for this upcoming holiday season. Self defense is a great gift to give someone. It is something that keeps on giving as long as people are willing to do the work. Krav Maga, MMA, Muay Thai, Kali, etc are not easy. There is a lot that goes into it and it is something that should be worked on year round, not just for a few months before you head off to college, to study abroad, or any other short term activity. Martial arts are for life and can save you and your family if the unthinkable is upon you. Thats a pretty great gift. Give someone an opportunity this year. S. Derhammer
