The horrific news regarding the dogs home in Manchester was as heart breaking as it gets. The sheer pain I feel for those dogs and the people who look after them daily. Thankfully we have the Great British Spirit, raising hundreds of thousands of pounds overnight. Volunteering their time. Men saving the lives of defenceless animals with no thought for themselves. A mass outpouring of help. But what has struck me most is the thousands of calls offering homes to these dogs. As wonderful as that is, why did it take a fire to achieve what shelters have been trying to achieve for decades. Homes for the animals. Look around you, look at how many cats, dogs, horses, rabbits etc...are in shelter. I hope that all the animals from Manchester Dogs Home go to wonderful new homes but I also really hope that people look closer to home. Just in Northamptonshire we have shelters spilling over with animals. Animals in Need, RSPCA Northamptonshire, Forest Lodge, Canino Animal Rescue, Stray Cats Fund...These are just off the top of my head. Please save a shelter animal, I can guarantee for every one you give a home to, there will be 25 more waiting to come in. Please extend that wonderful animal loving spirit nationwide so that thousands of cats & dogs go to families to be loved. Those people who worked tirelessly to help the Manchester animals, God Bless you all xxx
