The importance of Feng Shui is recognized by people around the world, but public awareness is still greatest in Asia. This article provides an interesting perspective on Feng Shui from “The Nation” in Bangkok, Thailand. ALK Feng shui and home-building combine for a healthy, happy balance November 15, 2013 THE ART OF feng shui has become increasingly popular in home-building, where it can be applied from the very first step of land filling. According to feng shui, everything has to be balanced, not too much and not too little. Therefore filling the land too high or too low could yield similarly bad results. The best way to cope with this problem is to measure the height of the land against the level of the road first. In general, the land should be 50-80 centimetres above the road level. But if the new road is paved, the level of the land surface should be higher. In the case where the house is built on a slope, the land should be levelled by adding landfill so that the front yard sits higher than the road level. The land on the slope where the body of the house sits should also be filled to between 50cm 80cm above the level of the front yard, so that rainwater flows away from the house. The land often ends up in the shape of a turtles back so that when the rain falls, the run-off will flow on both sides of the house. Therefore, land-filling to the shape of a turtleback is true to the principle of feng shui. Some houses have their land filled too high, blocking the current of chi (life force) that flows into the house. This is like having a mountain or dam in front of the house. If there is a sick person in the house, he or she will become weak because chi cannot flow well. It is believed that people in a house with good flow of chi will be happy both mentally and physically and have good health and good success in their work. The technique to generate oxygen in the house is to allow the wind to flow in and out conveniently. A narrow house or closed windows will block the wind flow. Fresh air in the house will enable good health. Therefore, each house should have enough windows and doors but have them open proportionately to adjust the current of wind to balance with the dwellers. Moreover, the house should have a back door to allow chi to flow. To be in line with feng shui, do not align the positions of the front and the back doors, because this means killer flow - the leaking away of money, health, and work stability. If the house is already built, the solution is to block the door with a cabinet, vases or a partition to hinder killer flow or turn it into good flow. The direction the house should face according to feng shui has to take into account the astrology of the owner. But according to the law of nature, a house facing the south and east is good. Facing the south will allow the wind to flow into the house, thus generating good ventilation and causing good health. Feng shui means the direction of money and fortune. Facing the east will benefit from the morning sunlight, which is not so strong, and in the afternoon the front of the house will provide shade suitable for outside activities. These tips are parts of the feng shui law that can be adapted to home building, because the principle is about the law of balance of light and wind to yield the dwellers healthy body and happy mind. When they are happy, they will have inspiration to work creatively, thus producing good progress and wealth.
