The inconvenient truth about Ethanol. In this triangle there are four lines. The lines I believe represent in grey 100% or ethanol free gasoline, and the broken lines all represent ethanol fuels or E10 fuel that we get at the bowser today and the different rates of decay depending on ambient temperatures. The worst result is for 60 degrees celcius. I would like to draw your attention to the result for -10 temperatures. In North Queensland this is not likely to happen so if our best possible outcome is when E10 fuel is kept below minus ten degrees we may have a problem with water in our fuel. No may about it we do. It is a fact. I am not clever enough to do these tests and come up with this data. I was able to find it though. Not through usual searches I chose to do an image search because I was trying to find actual data tables. The source of this one was for people who were making fuel for their own purposes. It seemed to offer very sound advice in particular around personal safety because making fuel inevitably is going to present a fire hazard etc. There are similar triangles out there this seemed easy to understand. Along side this clever little triangle were pictures showing fuel that had separated and I did read that all ethanol fuels decompose within 3 months. To what extent I still do not know. Obviously if its hotter that will speed up the rate of decomposition. There are a bunch of naysayers with regard to fuel decomposition. (When its a visible thing why are they saying its not a problem?. I say the sky is blue friend and you are saying is green. Huston we have a problem). The source of the photos with the separated fuel comes from another lab report which seems reasonable. When I look for sources of information and on the internet its pretty heavily stacked with more useless than useful information so rather than read every single thing I look for who wrote it and what their credentials appear to be. I generally err on the side of scientific publications where I possibly can find them. It can be hard because unless the research is funded it is very rarely available. I find this particularly challenging in the area of alternative health. Not so difficult in this area aside from the fact their is loads of contradictory advice. Those that are giving the contradictory advice dont appear to have the credentials I am looking for. They certainly have an opinion though.
