The incredible prima ballerina Misty Copeland was so moved by her - TopicsExpress

The incredible prima ballerina Misty Copeland was so moved by her visit to Spelman today that she cried on stage, saying she was just so inspired to be around so many amazing young black women who inspired her. Your first visit to Spelman College - seeing hundreds of passionate, progressive, creative & industrious black women - is quite an overwhelming feeling that I must admit I sometimes take for granted. Misty reminded me of the rarity of the blessing I experience daily connecting with these bright young women & supporting them in their world changing pursuits. She was such a gracious guest, genuinely appreciating the excited students, staff & even some of our youngest visitors while signing copies of her books. And she was thoughtful in her answers to questions from students. In response to one student who asked if she felt her skin color gave her an advantage over those dancers who had darker skin, she was honest. She said she could not be sure that her lighter skin wasnt an advantage, but if her journey could open the door to even one more dancer of color who was even one shade darker than her then it was worth it. So glad that I got a chance to see her interaction with students & reconnect with her publicist extraordinaire Gilda Squire, who I hadnt seen in years. In my sometimes frenzied days at Spelman, these frequent rewarding experiences make me #DigMyGig even more. In one of these photos a student brought her point shoes (brown, next to the books) for Misty to sign. We all said Awwww #Grateful #DanceMoves #MistyStateOfMind #GirlPower
