The infamous Stone House, Manassas Battlefield, marked by a red - TopicsExpress

The infamous Stone House, Manassas Battlefield, marked by a red flag during the war, indicating a place of refuge and suffering. Still visible, 152 yrs. later, the name and initials of two wounded Union soldiers, Privates Eugene P. Geer and Charles E. Brehm of the 5th NY Infantry etched into the floor and molding of an upstairs room. Charles Brehm recovered from his wounds and survived the war; Eugene Geer died of his wounds in September 1862 at the age of 17. Although the upstairs was officially closed off to the public, my pouting and namedropping (historians we both knew from Fredericksburg) seemed to pay off. Since my B-I-L & I were the only 2 there, the historian allowed us access to the upstairs. VERY cool!
