The infants began to look more towards the animal than the other - TopicsExpress

The infants began to look more towards the animal than the other inanimate objects when hearing helpful sentences that included a context word they knew, such as “the blick is eating.” In contrast, when infants heard the new word in an unhelpful sentence, for example, “the blick is over here,” (without gesturing towards it) the infants didn’t focus specifically on the animal. After all, “blick” could mean anything in that type of sentence. Contrary to the belief that learning occurs only in clear teaching conditions, the results indicate infants actually hear new words for the first time under much more natural and complex circumstances.
