The interactions between molecules of acetone and methanol are - TopicsExpress

The interactions between molecules of acetone and methanol are stronger than the interactions of molecules of methanol in pure solutions of methanol and of acetone molecules in pure solutions of acetone. Each, in the presence of the other, is held more tighly in the solution with the other and thus their partial pressures are less than Raoults law would predict. The O in acetone is more negative than the O in methanol and thus the H bonding between the H of methanol and the O of acetone results in the relatively strong interaction between the acetone and methanol molecules.
