The interim report from the Committee on Large Container Ship - TopicsExpress

The interim report from the Committee on Large Container Ship Safety on the MOL Comfort accident did not provide a definite conclusion on why the five year old 8,000 TEU container ship broke in two and sank but attention seems to have to turned to the overall structural strength of the vessel and the declared weight and distribution of the containers. In particular they are looking at a combination of extreme load, the still water bending moment, the wave bending moment and whipping. A secondary investigation on the accident will focus on these aspects.
