The irony of mankind thinking nature is ours to control is that Nature will allow mankind to progress until we annihilate ourselves in pursuit of that control. The simple reality is that Nature and Physics are so massive that our insignificant blip on the radar of reality renders our existence pointless unless we do something with it that works WITH the beautiful nature that ties everything together. To operate against nature, for any reason (usually humanistic selfishness) and deluding ourselves by calling it Progress is akin to suicide, because no matter if we destroy our own small world or not, Nature and physics trumps us every time and the significance of consciousness becomes apparent. Consciousness in the way we define it is only relevant to ourselves because it is how we articulate the objective reality we exist in through our subjective take on that objective reality. Therefore it is a sick perversion of our species to act on the universal based on our particularities of conscious thought, and without the maturity of our species to USE the consciousness we have developed to work WITHIN the bounds of nature instead of against it, we DESERVE to destroy ourselves because we are a failing line of genetic selection.
