The issue of religious conversion is an uncomfortable one and not easy to address. In India, this is widely used by certain religious groups to mass convert people, belonging to one faith to another, on promises of economic improvement and financial carrot sops. While these insidious and deplorable practises need to be stopped, it makes me hugely uncomfotable that the RSS has taken this head on. One extremist organisation trying to crack down another extremist problem, will only compound the issue and create tailor made opportunities for intolerance and smallmindedness, and make innocents the unfortunate target. From whichever angle you see it, it is high time Religion and Casteism is removed from public equations and given status as a personal choice. The past and the present is fettered with a billion examples of how Religion and casteism forces us to view each other as different rather than the same, even though we are all the same in believing that we are different.
