The issue of whether or not Christian musicians ought to charge - TopicsExpress

The issue of whether or not Christian musicians ought to charge set prices has long troubled the CCM community. I still remember an FCCM conference in Kansas City, MO, where Keith Green and Mike Warnke vehemently argued about that subject. Mike thought it was OK to do so. Keith strongly disagreed. I appreciated Keiths desire to offer the gospel to people regardless of whether or not they had much money. But Christian musicians have the same expenses that secular musicians have, so I tended to side with Mike on that subject. In fact, when John Styll was still editor of CCM, I wrote an article for that magazine entitled The Other Side Of The Coin. A lot of readers wrote in to say that they agreed with me. Later, Mikes flaws were glaringly revealed by Jon Trott and Cornerstone magazine. But Im not sure that that revelation rendered our viewpoints invalid.
