The last couple of weeks I have been chatting with a friend about her new horse. she is in similar position and bought a similar type of horse in personality. So it has been about 4 months since Illusion become my son and here is what he has taught me. I have been pondering this alot as I am watching her go through the same things I did. 1. You requested a sane, safe on the lazier side horse and that is what you got. Do not expect me to be too forward. You said you didnt want that and I told you I wasnt. 2 Trainers do not tell you this but should. I said stay off my face. I feel you with nearly no contact. I got the request with your leg and you corrected with 1/4th of an inch. If you do not want me to trot around with my nose in the air stop annoying me. 3. Keep your bananas. I like the crunchy fruit please. Do not pawn off your mush as a snack. No, I do not believe in sharing my apple. I am cute and I deserve the entire thing. 4. I have days. Some I am more in the mood to work than others. Some will be great and some not so much. You do too. Get over it. You dont ride as well ever day .... nor do I. 5. If you want to get frustrated and angry go ahead. You will accomplish frusted adn angry but it will only serve to upset me and make me pay less attention. Just start over, Ask again and we will work it out. The only day you will ruin is yours. 6. What makes me happy is 1/4th work time and 3/4th grooming, baths, grazing and love. Wouldnt that make you happiest???? 7 We have a lot of years together. We will work it out. Be patient just as I am with you. I ddint get mad when you learned to canter and were all over the place please show me the same courtesy 8 I am what I am. I am calm and swet and silly and can be stubborn. I will test you. i will try to get away with things. If you want a consistent ride then take the time to get it even if it means we have to work on the same thing over and over some times. 9 Just remember I tolerate all of your silly antics. You get on bareback with a halter and I just look at you like you have lost your mind. I tolerate your learning. I tolerate your need to make my tail smell like flowery conditioner for no reason I can sort out. Please tolerate the things you dont always like such as my amazing talent for magically forget things like to stand at a mounting block which I was perfect as just 3 days ago. 10. There is no one else on earth as cute as me that will love you as much as I do and follow you all over creation just because I might get a snack or a hug. No one else will nicker at you when you talk to me the way I do. Everything else will come together in time. Just bring extra carrots.... I will need a snack : )
