The last time I saw Bill Leist was at the end of the evening, - TopicsExpress

The last time I saw Bill Leist was at the end of the evening, probably 2am or so, after the 2010 JC reunion at the Southgate House. I thought I was done saying goodbye to people, but we ran into each other on the street in front of the historical sign. He was in the mood to talk. He said I dont suppose well ever get you back from Chicago, Karl, will we? He told me how much he wished we (the whole crowd of JC folks) could all go out to breakfast together & swap stories for a few more hours. He told me about how he got the idea to start booking bands in the Newport/Cincy area after driving to Chicago to see the Clash with Bo Diddley and The Undertones. He told me about smoking a few with East Bay Ray from the DKs and what a nice guy he was. I think it was the longest and closest conversation I ever had with him and Im so grateful that it took place. Thank you again, Chuck Byrd and Betsy Young, for bringing us together so many times over the last decade. I hope we can all have breakfast together some time.
