The last two weekends I saw to great productions of Broadway - TopicsExpress

The last two weekends I saw to great productions of Broadway musicals. A week ago I was in New York City for business and my daughter Sarah Beth happened to be visiting at the same time. We went to see CABARET starring Alan Cumming as the MC; it was an excellent production of very dark show. This weekend Ellen and I went to the last San Francisco performance of PIPPIN. Its a show Ive loved for years, but this performance (with a Cirque du Soleil styling) made the show even better. Pippin a very different show than Caberet, but it features a wonderful Leading Player (somewhat parallel to the MC in Caberet). That role was played by Ben Vereen in the original 1972 Broadway production; we saw a woman named Sasha Allen playing the role wonderfully. John Rubinstein, who played Pippin in 1972, now plays Charlemagne (Pippins father). Andrea Martin did a great job as Berthe, Pippins grandmother.
