Watched The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. Didnt blow me away. Not great. Its a 6.5-7 out of 10. Got off to a great start with the documentary intro of all the characters and Esteban being eaten by the jaguar shark and Steve getting crazy eye. I dont know, I felt like Bill Murray looked tired in this movie, like he wasnt into it. Unlike say Gene Hackman in Royal Tenenbaums. I was let down by his performance. Supporting cast is good. Willem Dafoe, I think hes an underrated comedic actor. Noah Taylor, Locke the ultimate asshole from Game of Thrones turned up, that was nice. Go buy yourself a golden hand and @#$% yourself with it! Cate Blanchett, I didnt like that she felt almost the same as she did in The Aviator, same voice for instance. Ive always had a hard time finding her funny whenever she does a comedy. Theres too much going on in this movie. Theres a Moby Dick revenge story, a mockumentary, a love triangle, turns into an action movie at one point. I think this movie would have been much better if it was just a mockumentary about this guy going after the Jaguar shark. Because in the middle of this movie, I almost forgot what it was about. I figured that stop motion animation for the fish would be all over this movie and itd be more of an adventure film in that respect But it IS still funny. Owen Wilson Im just becoming a massive fan of with each of these Wes Anderson films I watch. Hes never not funny. He plays dumb so well, mistaking a ships horn for a whale call was my favorite bit. This movies pretty hit or miss, which is a shame. Theres the introduction of Belafonte with this giant ship with the side cut off so we can see inside every room. Reminded me of those ceiling shots in Dogville. THAT was outstanding. But as good as its high points are, I think this movie could and should have been way better,
