The latest from Travis at 10:30pm. We had our first bulldozer - TopicsExpress

The latest from Travis at 10:30pm. We had our first bulldozer delivered this afternoon, which they took across to the stone house (the Grahams) to cut some breaks in around the stone house. We also saw some very big smoke plumes coming up over the back of the ridge. Bigger than weve seen anywhere yet. Theyve since disappeared, but it made the fire very real for all of us again as it can sometimes be easy to become disassociated with reality down in this magic canyon. :) But the official word is that the fire is still progressing very slowly in this direction. Most of their concern still lies to the southeast where the fire has recently jumped the river again in 2 spots. While theyve wanted to hold the fire at the river there Im not sure this was completely unexpected as they have some large dozer breaks cut in to the east about a mile or so from the river. The word continues to be a strong voice of confidence that they will be able to hold the fire here before it gets to the river. Though today was the first visible sign of any action toward that end. I expect well see that continue to change tomorrow. Just since I started typing weve had a couple of new visitors pull in... 2 large fire engines and a couple of accompanying SUVs. Theyre now laying out cots for the night and sleeping under what is currently a clear sky. And they will be putting our septic in cabin A to the test tomorrow morning! I still have no good answers about when this fire is going to crest the ridge, but if I were a betting man I might put my money on 4pm tomorrow. Whenever that happens it will still be a long slow crawl down the mountain and everyone Ive talked to has been confident in their ability to end the battle there, long before it shows up on our doorstep.
