The lawsuit against the city for discrimination has been - TopicsExpress

The lawsuit against the city for discrimination has been determined. The judge sided with the plaintiff on all points and the wage portion has been settled. Yet to be settled are the issues brought forth on the emotional distress and retaliation. What bothers you about this? What bothers me is the poor stewardship and blatant disregard for standards and practices. This city employee brought the issue to the attention of the Chief of Police to resolve the issue internally. It did NOT have to come to this. While two issues are still pending, again costing the taxpayers we excuse these accidents and create smoke and mirrors to cover up not only the moral wrong doing but the fiscal wrong doing as well. Well see the story tomorrow in the paper and the city will make some sort of statement such as the facts spoke for themselves and it was obvious the judge had a cold, or wasnt hearing correctly and go on to minimize the tax payer obligation as this is why we have insurance. What happens when a city can no longer GET insurance due to high risk? Do cities get dumped like individuals do? Would the city have to un-incorporate? I dont know...here it sits...we pay the price again. Our new roads are put into this type of legal mumbo jumbo and our streetscape improvement is wrapped up in legal fees. For what? Why? So we can keep not doing the right thing? So ethics are ignored, standards are tossed out the window and every place else in structured employment figures it out - but Aberdeen. Its always someone elses fault, someones sour grapes, someones attitude and we never see the city back down and do the right thing even if it means being proper stewards of the citizens money. Lets make a bet...there will be nothing cut from the budget at the city this year, no councilman will bring up a request to compare the insurance premium for the citys insurance for the past 5 years and we will end up pulling money out of reserve. Not one council person will challenge the status quo with DRASTIC demands for some cost cutting and fiscal accountability. This is law suit #2 under the watchful eye of Mr. Mayor. I can think of a good couple of thousand dollars a year that need to be cut from the budget. We gotta pay for these lawsuits somehow...and heck...the rest of this one is still pending. The whole thing was completely unnecessary - and the second part even MORE unnecessary. When is enough enough? Council? Care to comment?
