The local paper asked for a statement regarding my resignation - TopicsExpress

The local paper asked for a statement regarding my resignation from the Maynard Board of Selectmen. Due to space constraints they may or may not publish the statement in full so I am including it below. Thank you EVERYONE for the support you have sent my way. I appreciate it more than words can adequately express. Dawn ------------------------------------------------------- The decision to step down from my position as Selectman was extremely difficult. As I noted in my resignation letter, the current atmosphere on the Board of Selectmen has deteriorated to a point where diverse ideas and opinions are no longer welcome and are, in fact, discouraged by the use of such tactics as bullying and intimidation. Given the tone and aggressive, disrespectful behavior I was subjected to at the recent July 8th Board of Selectmen meeting, as well as at meetings over the past two years, I have, with much regret, resigned my position as Selectman. As a community, and especially as leaders, we need to all remember that Maynard is at its best when we work together, not when we divide ourselves. Maynard is a wonderful town, with great potential, but there are still many challenges ahead. We need to remember that is ok to have differing points of view but it is not ok to treat each other disrespectfully. We must listen, learn and treat each other how we wish to be treated. I became involved in town activities to simply do my part to bring about positive changes where needed. I will always look back on my time serving Maynard as time well spent. The community has accomplished so much in the past four years and I will always be very grateful to everyone who has played a role in moving Maynard forward. We should all be very proud of the new Maynard High School, new Parks & Playgrounds, the Solar Array powering many of the town buildings and the new leadership in key staff leadership positions. In addition, we have so many more subtle, but very substantial, changes that will result in our being on sound financial footing as we move forward. The town is set to unveil a newly updated Capital Plan as well as finally launch an Economic Development Committee, which is so desperately needed. To be clear, these are not MY accomplishments, these are ours, as a town. We have countless volunteers and staff doing the work to move Maynard forward. I want to thank my colleagues on the Board of Selectmen, the School Committee and Planning Board. I have learned something from each of you and I wish you all great success as you continue to move Maynard forward. In addition, I wish to thank all of the staff at Town Hall, Police, Fire and DPW. We have come so far in such a short period of time and with your professionalism and expertise I know we are in good hands. I will miss working with you all. Lastly, and most importantly, thank you to the residents of Maynard for allowing me to serve our wonderful town. Sincerely, Dawn Capello
