The local police commissioner is looking for three members of the public to help investigate complaints against the police. Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Sue Mountstevens said the three people would join a group of independent residents already involved in the process. The Independent Residents Panel helps in the review of police complaints files and the decision-making process, and reports back to the PCC on its findings. Ms Mountstevens said she set up the panel soon after she took up her role to help enhance local people’s trust and confidence in the review of complaint files against the police. “It is really important to involve local people in policing and I am pleased to be able to offer this opportunity. I cannot do this role alone and want to hear from people who are passionate about improving policing,” she said. “If you are over the age of 18, live or work in the area and have a wide range of views on community policing, please consider finding out more about this role and applying to be part of the Independent Resident’s Panel.” The volunteers will receive training and travel expenses and will be required to take part in quarterly meetings to review police complaint files. They will be asked to give feedback on what areas of policing are working well and what areas need improvement. To apply or find out more, visit the vacancies page on the PCC website or contact Kate Watson on 01275 816825. The final date for applications is Friday, January 16, 2015. Dates for selection are February 24, 25 and 26, 2015. somersetguardian.co.uk/Avon-Somerset-Police-Crime-Commissioner-Sue/story-25760285-detail/story.html
