The long love affair between the Democrats and labor unions may finally be turning sour…For decades, Democrats could depend on big labor for money and manpower at every election. But labor leaders have finally started to notice they’re getting a bum deal. While union membership has steadily shrunk to less than 12 percent of the workforce, Democratic policies have been devastating for workers. Job growth is anemic, wages are down, and union leaders like Teamster leader Jimmy Hoffa feel snookered for helping pass Obamacare, then seeing it erode the 40-hour work week. Now, 40,000 longshoremen have quit the AFL-CIO over its support for Obamacare, which breaks a promise not to tax their health benefits. But if unions abandon the Democrats, where will they go? They see the GOP as the party of big business. But maybe after a few years of Democratic economic policies, it’s finally starting to become clear that without the business owners, the workers have no jobs.
