The main weather theme going through the weekend and into next week will be a prolonged period of unseasonal heat and humidity. Highs will often be well into the 90s, possibly approaching records by midweek, with heat indices from 100 to 105F during the peak heating of the afternoon. There will be little if any potential for rainfall through this period either with drought conditions over the southwest two-thirds of Iowa continuing to build and expand. Folks responsible for outdoor events may need to take extra precautions such as allotting time for extra water breaks and/or rescheduling to the early morning or evening hours, outside of the peak heat. ~ US National Weather Service Des Moines Iowa
