The misconceptions about Istikharah AssalaamuAlaikum wa rahmatallah wa barakatuh brothers and sisters. I am reminded about something that horrified me some time back and I thought I should share this again with you all as I know there are a lot of brothers and sisters who do all sorts of things in desperation. I noticed there are a lot of online istikhara services popping up..Mostly based in and from Pakistan.. There is even a facebook page that claims they can give you an answer to all your questions!! Even individuals who will reply to you in real time..!! Really ..amazing. Right? Now come on brothers and sisters!! Are you really going to fall for this cheap trick and gimmick? Islam does not preach this sort of rubbish and there is nowhere in Islam from the days of the Prophet ﷺ that practised or offered these kinds of service. Yes its true it was practised by the Jews, but then it was made forbidden once Islam became prominent and the relevant verses were revealed to make this kind of practise forbidden (haraam). I will be honest with you..please do not come near to these kinds of websites nor to the people who say they can give you an answer. They cannot give you any answer and no one can give you any answer. The truth and all answers lie ONLY with Allah سبحانه و تعالى. He alone knows best! Looking again at some off these sites, I was amazed by the professional standard of these websites. The first thing that catches your eye on their webpage is the form in which they want you to fill in, asking for your mothers name. Now ask yourself: What on earth do they want with your mothers name? It is famously known from the Saahireen (Jaadugars/Twuangans/Witch-Doctors) that they always ask you for your mothers name. What they are asking here for is oddly similar. In Islam, any person is known by his fathers name: Nu`maan ibn Thaabit, Muhammad ibn Idrees, Maalik ibn Anas, etc. Since when do you start asking people for their mothers name? What do you want with it? Laa Howla wa Laa Quwwata illaa Billaah. I again re-iterate brothers and sisters: Stay away from these people! They are very dangerous and very far from Siraat-ul-Mustaqeem. Whoever they are and what ever you may wish to call them..they are not practising Islam that is from the Quran or Hadith! In a previous facebook post I have illustrated how one can do istikharah. Dear brothers and sisters, why should you ask other people to do istikharah for you? Its your life, your needs, not theirs. You will know your account better and how to request and ask (because you know the details better than anyone..) of your duaas in istikharah than these people. Do you ask others to do your salah for you? Same way you dont ask some one to pray this for you. Even if other people are doing istikharah for you, it is still better for you to do it on your own. Following wrong interpretations or wrong advice or even someone proclaiming to know the future..can do more harm than good. People offering to give you a Yes or No answer.. Is all fake and bidah and strictly forbidden in Islam. You will only have yourself to blame if you follow it blindly! Fear Allah سبحانه و تعالى because you may be venturing into committing shirk by seeking others to help you or to advise you about your future...no one knows the future other than Allah سبحانه و تعالى. Similarly people who proclaim to know astrology and palmistry..stay away from them! Lets clear up another misconception about the results of istikharah in forms of dreams or something similar. It is not always the case that one will receive their answers in forms of symbolic dreams or looking for colours.. This is all a misconception! When you pray the Duaa, you are asking Allah سبحانه و تعالى to ordain something that will be good for you in this life and for your hereafter In Shaa Allah....or remove it, if it is harmful to you in this life and for your hereafter...and you are asking to ordain that which is best for you and better for you in this life and hereafter... So firstly how on earth can anyone else do this Duaa for you? Secondly, its like any other form of duaa, you ask and you Have the hope and trust that it will be answered . Its beyond my understanding that Muslims will fall for these kinds of tricks...or bidah...asking others to tell them their future and waiting for a miracle to happen! It is the will of Allah Subhanahu Wa Taala to bless you with a clear decisive answer.. And if its in a form of a complex dream.. Then its means more confusion as who will you then go to interpret the dream ..so more confusion, and more interpretation! Lets be clear, say you have to make a decision about thinking about going abroad for what ever reason and you need guidance.. There is a choice to stay where you are..or go abroad. You need a simple yes I go or no I stay! You pray the 2 rakaats and then you make the Duaa. Then instead of waiting for the miracle dream or what ever signs you are expecting....you go with what your heart or soul reveals. You sit down and evaluate the pros and cons. You think? In your mind you will already have a range of choices..the strengths and and weaknesses and the positives and negatives. You will then derive at a decision. Hmmm ok I will travel abroad because it will give me better opportunities.. Then you do so! You dont look back and say..oh dear, have I made the wrong decision? or is it the right decision? No thats not the mindset you should be adhering to! The purpose of the istikharah is to help you along the way with the decision that you have made. To remove what is bad and harmful on the decision you made and you going abroad... The Duaa is essentially that asks Allah Subhanahu wa Taala to prevent you from doing anything wrong or incorrect and enabling you to set out to do.. And adding and making it easier for you to make those travel arrangements, living , finding work, change of lifestyle ..etc.. Thats the purpose of istikharah.. Allah سبحانه و تعالى guides you and helps you along your way..because you have put it in his knowledge, you have seeked his blessing and you have placed your life in his trust and care and now he will take care of the rest..all you need to do is take that first step and move.... Thats what Istikharah is all about dear brothers and sisters.. People take the wrong steps and make the wrong interpretations. They will think and wait for a dream. It does not come! Then they will pray again. Then again wait for another dream. They will see a dream and be more confused. Or they see a dream.. Make an assumption its a certain decision.. Only to discover its a wrong decision that have made.. By being hasty or not understanding the purpose of Istikharah. Please do check my next post about this.. The Duaa and the method you apply it, its very simple and very straightforward like any salah. You pray and then read a Duaa. Thats it! Too many people are either too preoccupied and dwell on the results rather than placing trust in Allah سبحانه و تعالى. We do not receive miracle yes or nos!! Life is not that straight forward in this Duniya.. We all face ups and downs and no matter what.. You too will continue to face the same.....which ever way you decide to take the next step...But through Istikharah it is having belief and trust that all will go well and will be good for one and leaving the matter with Allah سبحانه و تعالى. Hope this clears up any misconception that people have about Istikharah. Please please do not indulge in any of these online services.. You will be corrupted and you will lose your mind simply worrying about something that may or may not ever happen.. Jazak Allah Khair Qasim
