The moment we cease to keep our minds on the Lord Jesus...[that very moment]...we stop feeling gratitude for Gods grace...[is the very moment that...we begin to drift away from God]. If He does not rescue us and bring us back to the place where He is most important of all, then we will forever wander away into darkness from His presence. Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee, because he trusteth in Thee. (Isaiah 26:3) This should be a warning sign to all of us that when our minds begin to wander, [and they always wander off in to sin] then we have missed following the Lord. It happens to me all the time and I am always shocked at my own behavior. But listen, all of us are saved sinners; we all retain a portion of evil in our minds until the day of the redemption of the purchased possession which means that we are contaminated by the residual of evil. We are affected until the Lord comes to get us...and we need to be [alerted continually] that we will drift away from Him. We are only as secure as we are in Christ. Eternal security is not in some kind of doctrinal belief; it is in Christ alone because eternal life is found only in Him.
