The most recent email from the Brady Campaign brags about beating the multi-billion dollar corporate gun lobby. Ok thats to be expected, but the real killer line is this one: Second, our get-out-the-vote efforts in Washington State recently overcame strong opposition and massive spending from the gun lobby to help win passage of I-594, the citizens initiative that expands Brady background checks to ALL gun sales. Yeah, there was massive spending by the gun lobby. No mention of Bloomberg, Gates, Allen etc. But heres something you may have missed: And third, just two days ago, President Obama signed into law the Omnibus Appropriations Act that earmarks $81 million in bipartisan funding for gun violence prevention efforts within the new government spending bill. In addition, the Act allocates $73 million to fund the National Instant Criminal Background Checks System (NICS) — the highest amount ever allocated for NICS to ensure dangerous people don’t get their hands on guns! This part is true. With a lot of Republicans going along for the ride.
