The neighbor I wrote about several days ago and her friend from England, visiting since mid-November, stopped by to say goodbye as they are off on a trip north. They are driving to Ojai where they will stay overnight with a family member. Tomorrow they will continue to the coastal route and stop in Santa Barbara for sightseeing and an overnight stay so they will be fresh the following day to drive to Cambria for another stay and a visit to Hearst Castle as they have reservations for inside and outside tours. Then they will visit Big Sur - depending on the weather and on to Monterey and eventually to San Francisco where they will spend two days with my neighbors sister who has a whole raft of sightseeing planned. Her visitor will fly back to England from San Francisco. But - she may be back! She says she has absolutely fallen in love with the California desert - so different from where she was born and raised in Norfolk - which she says is mostly flat and mostly wet and hopes she will be able to sell her cottage and move here permanently by next autumn when she retires for good. She had retired previously but been called back with much begging by her boss but she is ready for a total break after 27 years with that employer. She has been warned about the hot summers but she has spent a couple of holidays in previous years in Spain and one in Mexico where it was hot and dry and says she felt as contented as the lizards, basking in the sun. She says she loves Governor Brown, likes his no-nonsense speeches and wishes some of the UK politicians were as dedicated to doing good for their constituents. So by this time next year I may have a new and interesting neighbor to satisfy my anglophile leanings...
