UPDATED: SUSPECTED POPPY BOX THIEVES NABBED Barrie police have arrested two people in connection with six poppy donation box thefts in the city since Saturday. City police say donations boxes have been stolen from several Tim Hortons and variety stores by a man and woman. In most cases, police say the man distracted a clerk while the woman took the box after hiding it under a coat. Police have collected several of the internal surveillance videos and after releasing their images to the public yesterday, resulted in their arrests shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday at a business at Mapleview Drive West and Essa Road. A 38-year-old Barrie man was charged with three counts of theft under $5,000 and a 33-year-old Barrie woman was charged with four counts of theft under $5,000. Both were held for a bail hearing. Police anticipate both will be facing an additional two counts of theft.
