The new iPhone 5S is announced today, so what are 20 killer apps that leaders should install on their new phone? I’m focusing on apps, because what we do know is that, on the surface at least, the new iPhone will be much like the last one. While we live in hope of the next category killer, expectations have been lowered to the point where we’re not expecting Tim Cook to produce an “insanely great” Steve Jobs leap forward. The biggest changes we can hope for on the outside of the iPhone 5S are a new “champagne” gold color and a new fingerprint reader that will save you having to enter your PIN code every time you make a phone call. The changes that we will see are more focused on the internals: in addition to global 4G connectivity and the usual speed bump, the iPhone 5S will ship with the new iOS 7 software/operating system, which has been overhauled by Apple’s star designer Sir Jony Ive, offering cleaner lines, brighter colors and a more human interface. Yet for so many of us, the iPhone (and its big sister, the iPad) will remain an inseparable part of our lives, both at work and at home. As leaders, we can magnify their impact if we power them up with the killer apps and content we need to lead, boost our productivity and help us best to live out our aspirations for our lives. NB Most of the apps featured below are free. While a couple towards the end which are for successful, “cash-rich time-poor CEO”, the overall aim is to help us make the most of our time and get the best mix of convenience, insight and value for money.
