The new owners of the former Mar Vista resort on San Juan Island - TopicsExpress

The new owners of the former Mar Vista resort on San Juan Island have submitted a permit to construct a 271-foot long joint-use community dock for six single-family residences for the moorage of six boats ranging between 20- and 30-feet in length. The 29 acre property is located at 1609A False Bay Road on the west side of San Juan Island. The dock, if approved, would be constructed in a pocket beach at the head of False Bay. The beachs tide pools have seastars and other marine organisms. Otters live in the water and on the shoreline. Eagles frequently roost on the trees lining the pocket beach. The county has determined an environmental impact statement is not necessary and the permit department will not require any additional mitigation measures. The applicants say they will hire a marine biologist to monitor marine mammal activity during construction. The area borders a reserve used by the University of Washington Friday Harbor Labs. June 4 is the final day to comment. MORE INFO sanjuanislander/island-newshome/more/san-juan-county-community-development-and-planning/9329-dock-proposed-at-former-mar-vista-resort
