The news is that in Pune there were a large number of voters who were unable to vote because their names were missing from the electoral roll. One conspiracy theory says that the ruling dispensation deliberately obliterated the voters names who were likely to vote for the opposition. This theory seems to be based on the fact that only the opposition parties seem to be agitating about this, while the ruling parties remain mum. I wonder if an analysis of the missing names will provide any (more convincing) demographic clues as to whether this theory holds any water, or will simply asking for such analysis deprive us of that water even? What I dont understand about the current system though is why do they rate an entry in some list on paper as being more valid than the living, breathing (often angry) person standing in front of them with other government documents to prove their identity. I mean, so what if the persons name is not in your list - the effing person is standing right there in front of you with no ink on their hands, no? ---------------------------- Also, Suneil - would it be irony if the agitating opposition parties managed to get a repoll done and these large number of voters then turned up and voted for the ruling parties?
