The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God Who takes away the sin of the world.” -John 1:29 (NASB) Thoughts on Today’s Verse John the Baptist was the last and the greatest of God’s prophets to Israel, for he was chosen by God to be His herald of the King of kings and to the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, just as had been foretold by the prophet Isaiah. He had heard the voice of God from heaven declaring, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased and He witnessed the descent of the Holy as He came and rested upon Jesus in bodily form like a dove – and this was the sign to John from God that Jesus was the prophesised Messiah of Israel and the promised Redeemer of the world. Year after year an innocent lamb, was chosen to be the Paschal lamb as a remembrance that God had saved His chosen people from the bondage of Egypt. Year after year a lamb was chosen as a representative sacrifice for the One that was to come . The representative lamb was examined for four days for it was to be without spot or blemish or any such thing, because the true Lamb that was to be offered up to God, as the propitiation for the sins of mankind, would be pure and unblemished, and when He was examined for four days, their verdict would be – I find no fault in Him, at all. And so the next day when John saw the Lord Jesus coming towards him he cried out like a voice in the wilderness – BEHOLD, the Lamb of God, Who takes away the sin of the world. Every aspect of the Paschal lamb from its selection, examination and the shedding of its blood to the roasting and eating of its flesh was fulfilled in every detail by the true Lamb of God, when He came to earth to pay the price for the sin of mankind – for He was to die on the cross at the very time that the Jews were slaughtering their own little lambs on the alter of the temple – oblivious and blinded to the truth that Christ was the final Passover Lamb for Israel and that He was the true and only Lamb of God, that takes away the sin of the world. My Prayer Loving heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus as the true Lamb of God, Who has taken away all my sins. Thank You for dying for me on the Cross and becoming the only substitute for my sins – thank you in Jesus name I pray, AMEN Read more: knowing-jesus/john-1-29/#ixzz2XVmalha9
