The next eleven presidents of the country should be female. This - TopicsExpress

The next eleven presidents of the country should be female. This from Sen. and future member of the International Court of Justice, Miriam Defensor Santiago. What idiocy! Because we have had 15 male presidents in the past against only two females, she said, the next eleven should be females! That line of thinking only exposes her vacuity of gray matter. Because gender equality is not about numbers but about availability of opportunities. Otherwise, we would have to count the number of female sales personnel in department stores and demand that there be an equal number males. We would have to look into the number of female secretaries and demand that HRDs hire more males here to equalize. Int he same breadth, we should also look into the distribution of stevedores in our piers, and of boxers in our gyms and of soldiers and sailors in our armed forces and make sure that there is an equal number of them in either gender. (And shouldnt we also consider the distribution of LGBTs?) The fact is, a worldwide survey already shows that we are the second most gender sensitive country in the world. That we have more women in corporate board rooms and female business executives than any other country except for one. So, Filipinas need not gripe as much about their position in Philippine society. IF they say that females need to work doubly hard more than men to attain to such positions it more due to tradition and not discrimination. That men, over the centuries have developed a certain facility in these fields of endeavor, which females only have begun to develop in about the latter half of the previous century. The sharp increase in their acceptance in this latter period already shows how much they have adapted and been accepted. And, I believe, our women are the most loved and treasured by our males, too.As macho men like to say, Ang babae minamahal, hindi sinasaktan. Hows that for attitude?
