The older I am, the more I appreciate things my father taught me. Things that at the time didnt seem to make much sense. It all came home to me yesterday, as I surveyed the once-charming one bedroom apartment just vacated--and trashed--by the tenants. I stood there, among the piles of trash, broken furniture, and rotting food and remembered being a boy of 9 and walking behind my Dad in the empty farmhouse in Lock Haven, PA. The truck was loaded, and Mom was putting some food together for the long drive. Why do I have to sweep? I asked. The landlord was really mean to us. He explained that in life, it is important to always leave a place in better condition than you found it. A life lesson that I never forgot and live by today.
