The older I get, the longer I realize what an amazing mother I have in Cheryl Malone Neace. Just in the past few weeks I have said this in a number of ways to different people, completely spontaneously, by simply reflecting on the ways in which she was exceptional relevant to the particular conversation I was having. Specifically, I talked about how clean she always kept our home (even if she didnt always think so), which translated to me as a diligent attitude of ownership for small tasks (which are really quite large) and an expression of good stewardship. I talked about how she took it upon herself to educate me in ways that I took for granted, but that I now realize are really quite unique. One example of this is when she drew a pair of shoes on a poster board, cut them out and punched holes, then put shoelaces in them - all of this so that I could learn how to tie shoes without having to fumble with the weight and awkwardness of holding a shoe in my little hands. And I talked with my small group this morning how she talked with me about the importance tithing to the local church even when you dont know how ends are going to meet without that portion of your income. She told me that Sometimes, you give out of your need. What a gift we have in our mothers! Hug your mom today, or send her a note of thanks!!!!!
