The origin of the name Stella Ireland Road dates back over 150 years to when the road’s original name was Stella to New Ireland Road. Stella was named after the daughter of an early postmaster of the area that today we call Prospect Terrace. New Ireland was an area near the Greater Binghamton Airport where a large settlement of Irish farmers located in the 1840’s and 1850’s. Over the years residents have continually shortened the name until today only Stella Ireland remains. From the Broome County website
