The original presentation of the Rodgers and Hart classic, Isnt It - TopicsExpress

The original presentation of the Rodgers and Hart classic, Isnt It Romantic? from the 1932 film Love Me Tonight. What makes music Romantic? The period of literary romanticism predated musical romanticism by perhaps a few short decades, but the musical revolutions contained in works of Ludwig van Beethoven paved the way for The Romantic Generation of composers to follow: the Mendelssohns, Schumanns, Johannes Brahms, and many later composers, such as Tchaikovsky. How is it that a movement originating in literature flourished to such an extent in music, that these works of more than 150 years ago have stayed so universally popular. What was it about Beethovens obsessive refining of his craft that would lead later romantics, such as Brahms, to be awestruck to the point of fear at the prospect of writing a symphony after Beethoven...to say nothing of the long-held curse of nine symphonies. Come hear the students of the UBSO present The Romantic Masterpiece on Monday, December 1st Slee Hall UB, 7:30pm - FREE ADMISSION!
