The original song (Palästinalied) was written by Walther von der Vogelweide(c.1170 – c. 1230) who was the most celebrated of the Middle High German lyric poets. Story is talking about the unfortunate and disastrous Fifth Crusade (1213–1221) ...You might feel the piece of atmosphere from survived writings.... The Crusader march to Cairo was disastrous; the river Nile flooded ahead of them, stopping the crusader advance. A dry canal that was previously crossed by the crusaders flooded, thus blocking the crusader armys retreat. With supplies dwindling, a forced retreat began, culminating in a night time attack by Al-Kamil which resulted in a great number of crusader losses and eventually in the surrender of the army under Pelagius... ...... The lyrics used here is Alte clamat Epicurus, from the Carmina Burana, that was meant to be sung over the music of Palästinalied - but used in very sarcastic way.
