The other day I got a text from someone, and it brought out my GRAMMAR COP!!! Please do not write Should Of when what you really meant to write was, Should HAVE. Should of is absolutely nothing in the context of the syntax of the English language...NADA! Trust me on this. It is too hard to explain. BUT Should have is basically a phrase that is used to support a real live verb. Like I should have taken the garage out last night. OR I should have danced all night! When we write should of, we are responding to sloppy speech. We dont hear it correctly anymore because no one says it correctly. Its a bit like the folks who say, Dint when they mean Didn.t. I know. Im anal about this, but someone should have the decency to help us understand our own Mother Lingua.
