The other day I got an email from fed loan servicing saying I was *way* past due on my loan payments and had been reported to the various credit bureaus. I checked my email and had never missed a payment. But in a moment of panic, I paid the balance they said was due. Then I called them, and they said I had never been late and had no negative reports on my file, and if I had been that late, they would have called me long before then. Her advice was, if I get another email saying Im late in a payment, but Im sure Ive paid up, just delete the email. Who in the world is that sure of anything?
