The other day I raised the issue of who should represent brand - TopicsExpress

The other day I raised the issue of who should represent brand Antigua and Barbuda to mixed reviews as expected. The topic resurfaces again with Trinindad and Tobago taking a stand on who should represent their brand in CPL. The Sports Minister of Trinidad and Tobago asserts that brand Trinidad and Tobago should only be represnted by players who are from that country based on the constitutional provisions. The CPL format does not fit in with those provisions therefore brand T&T should be removed from the name. Some Petra perspective - while CPL represents a potentially strong sports tourism and general tourism marketing prospects for the region, are the owners paying sufficient attention to the requirements and benefits for the territories they expect to participate and make their brands available for the international branding and success of the tournament? Is it reasonable to use the individual country brand without sufficinet inclusion of the talent of the land, to ask their specific government to invest in your success without a clear program to show the benefits at all level for the national economy. The reports to date on the operations in the second year points to a reduction in the use of the professional talents of the countries (at least in Antigua and Barbuda) which already means a loss of earnings and reduced economic impact of the activity. The focus on the international flavor and audience seems at cross purpose with the main objective of stimulating regional economic activity and the continued development of cricket as a business. We are watering down our Caribbean product in the interest of ensuring that the international community is ensured prime time viewing, but what is it theat they expcet to view? Are we so unimportant to our own events that we are now not th eprimary consideration beyond the use of our brand? How will we ever get out people to develop if we need allow then proper access to the platform to shine. There are some very relevant points in the argument put foward by the Minster as presented in the article
