The other day, I took a stroll around a lake that is not too far - TopicsExpress

The other day, I took a stroll around a lake that is not too far from my childhood home. As I walked, a storm of memories came flooding back to me! I remembered the times my mother brought me here to fish when I was just a child. How I had fished there for so many years without ever catching a single fish but never gave up hope. I gazed across the lake to where the rope swing once was, now long gone to make room for the homes that have been built in its place. A smile made its way to my lips as I recalled how one of my best friends had found a trail that he could maneuver his little Datsun through so we would not have to make the trip by foot. How many beers did we drink back in those now gone trees? I walked to the baseball field where mom would help me practice my batting. She did so much for me that I took for granted then but now remember with fond memories. I walked to the soccer field and remembered the time my ROTC unit in high school had a picnic there. Damn, we got rowdy that day! A friendly game of soccer turned into a full-fledged battle! The people that were in that Marine Corps ROTC were really the only people that I got along with and fit in with back then. We were like a family. I am friends with many of them to this day. I sat down, closed my eyes, and focused on all of these memories. They were so vivid that even smells came back to me! It was then that it hit me. You see, back then it was just another day. Nothing special. But now each and every one of those memories are more precious than gold! We need to remember that as we go through life we must take time to savor every moment. Never take a single day for granted. Cherish every moment. Remember every person that has come into our lives, for they were brought to us for a reason. No matter how mundane the days may seem now, one day they may be some of your best memories.
